Sunny, hazy clouds, chilly
breeze, rain later. We got up early to go shopping in Fürstenburg as there were
no shops at Burgwall. Bought diesel, petrol and gas then got groceries from an
Edeka supermarket. Took the car right up by the boat to unload, then Mike
parked it further up the street beyond a white house. We’d taken a big bag full
of rubbish with us to find a bin and ended up bringing it back with us having
found no public dustbins. We set off at 11.30 am and got as far as KP30 when
Mike said he couldn’t remember locking the car. Nothing for it but to wind and
go back and check. It was 12.30 pm so I made some lunch. The car WAS locked but
best to check. Has an SMS from the Snails to say they were waiting for the lock
at Fürstenburg. We tied up at 2.25 pm at KP28.5 but this time we couldn’t get
close to the bank before going aground. Maybe the water will come back up. (It
didn’t) Put the short plank out and Mike banged four mooring pins into the soft
sandy bank. Needless to say, with all the speedboats and fast cruisers that
passed, the ropes stretched and had to be tightened and eventually the pins
were pulled through the soil and had to be repositioned, the fore and aft pins
doubled. Phone reception was bad – had a text from the Snails at 11 pm that was
sent in the afternoon to say they’d moored at the end of the Stolpsee. Had to
stand outside on the gunwale to send a reply.
